Cricketing great bats for health

2010 is shaping up as a big year for improving the health of everyday Australians, with cricketing legend Greg Chappell taking up the bat as ambassador for the 50th Anniversary of the Natural Health Society of Australia.
A champion of both sport and healthy living, Greg is passionate about making people aware of how they can prevent illness and premature ageing.
“Australians have historically enjoyed a reputation for being healthy, active, sports loving people, but we are now seeing alarming levels of obesity, heart attack, stroke and other lifestyle diseases,” Greg said.
“The good news is there is a lot we can do to look after our own bodies. As the NHS ambassador, I will be helping the Society to get that information out to people.”
Greg is, perhaps, uniquely qualified to take on the role of Natural Health ambassador. Since retiring from Test cricket he has thrived on a heavy workload that has included coaching the South Australian and Indian cricket teams, serving as an Australian cricket selector and Cricket Board member, and commentating on radio and television.
He has also made the time to indulge in his passion for helping others enjoy better living by writing two books, Health and Fitness Repair Manual: A Book for Men and Family Health and Fitness Manual.
Today, as the head coach of Cricket Australia’s Centre of Excellence, Greg is tasked with turning young Aussie cricketers into stars of the future. He is revelling in a hectic lifestyle that would leave most people exhausted, and he is not likely to start slowing down anytime soon.
“I am fully committed to a healthy diet and a lifestyle that includes exercise, good water and rest,” 61-year-old Greg said.
